Dr. Dhirendranath Ganguly (1911–1998) was a legendary Bengali psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and founder of the Pavlov Institute of Psychology in Kolkata. He was a foremost pioneer in introducing Pavlovian conditioned-reflex psychology and community-based mental hygiene across the Bengal delta. Rejecting purely custodial psychiatric treatments, Dr. Ganguly advocated for progressive, community-integrated psychosocial therapy, conducting extensive research on behavior modification, neuroses, and childhood behavioral disorders. He authored numerous influential books on psychotherapy in Bengali.
