About

Dr. Nazmul Abedin Khan received his B.S. and M.S. in chemistry from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. In 2012, he received his Ph.D in chemistry from Kyungpook National University, South Korea. He worked as a Contract Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Kyungpook National University from May, 2015 to August, 2019. Since September 2019, he has been working as an Assistant Professor in the department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences; East West University, Bangladesh. His major research involves the facile synthesis, functionalization or modification of porous materials like metal-organic frameworks, porous carbons, zeolites, metal phosphates etc. for selective adsorption of hazardous organic compounds and for various heterogeneous catalytic purposes. He has published 91 researches (including 3 patents, 3 book chapters and 7 review articles) in high-ranking journals including Angewandte Chemie International, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Chemical Communications…

1. Highly porous materials - Synthesis/Application of porous materials (MOFs, zeolites, carbons, AlPOs) - MOF- or organic polymer-derived carbons (highly porous, ordered and having various functionalities) adsorption/storage, catalysis and electrical energy storage. -Rapid/continuous synthesis of porous materials with microwave and ultrasonics - Functionalization/Modification of MOFs for selective adsorption of hazardous compounds 2. Adsorption/separation - CO 2 capture with porous adsorbents - Fuel purification (removal of S- and N- containing compounds) - Water purification (removal of pharmaceuticals, personal care products, pesticides, dyes) - Adsorption/separation of hydrocarbons - Adsorption/storage of gases 3. Heterogeneous catalysis - Acid catalysis with porous materials (dehydration, isomerization, alkylation) - Conversion of biomass into chemical intermediates with dehydration 4.
