The Department of Islamic Studies at the University of Dhaka is a founding department of the university, established in 1921 under the Faculty of Arts. It is celebrated as the premier center for the study of Quranic exegesis (Tafsir), Hadith sciences, Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh), and Islamic philosophy. The department offers BA (Honours), MA, M.Phil., and Ph.D. programs in Islamic Studies. Its curriculum integrates classical theological traditions with contemporary social ethics, human rights in Islam, Islamic finance, and comparative religion.
