The Department of Statistics at the University of Dhaka is widely celebrated as the cradle of statistical science in the Indian subcontinent, established in 1939-1940 by the illustrious National Professor Dr. Qazi Motahar Husain. It has continually led statistical methodologies, biometric analyses, and computational data science in Bangladesh. Conferring B.S. (Honours), M.S., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees, the department provides an exhaustive foundation in probability theory, mathematical statistics, sample survey techniques, biostatistics, econometrics, machine learning, and time series analysis. It houses advanced computer laboratories supporting statistical programming in R, Python, and SAS. Graduates of the Statistics Department have excelled worldwide as chief statisticians, econometricians, data science leaders, and university professors in premier international universities and multinational technology corporations. The department actively advises government agencies on census operations, economic surveys, and demographic forecasting.
