Everyone has the right to make their own choices. The problem arises when personal decisions are presented as religiously correct simply to justify them. As a teacher, he should have the integrity to say, “I made this decision,” rather than attributing his choice to religion without proper reasoning. Religion should be approached with sincerity and humility, not used to validate personal choices. As advice form Imam al-Shafi‘i,“Be hard on yourself, and easy on others.”
